Chhattisgarh: Police arrest journo Vinod Verma for extortion

Chhattisgarh police have arrested senior journalist Vinod Verma in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram in a case of extortion.

Vinod Verma, a member of the Editors Guild of India was arrested around 04:00 am today from his home near Delhi by the Chhattisgarh police on charges of extortion.

"I have a sex CD of a Chhattisgarh Minister, he is Rajesh Munat and that is why the Chhattisgarh government is not happy with me", Mr Verma told reporters while being taken to court after hours of questioning.

The reporters asked Salgaonkar that two players want to bounce on the pitch and if it can be done, to which Salgaonkar replied, "It will be done".

As per reports, Verma was arrested for possession of a sex CD involving a minister in the BJP government in Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel came to the aid of Verma and said that the BJP is trying to protect its minister and is trying to frame an innocent journalist. He is said to have called the BJP leader and demanded money to keep the CD private.

In March 2016, Verma, along with two other journalists, was part of a fact-finding committee to verify and assess the arrests of journalists in Chhattisgarh as well as threats and challenges faced by journalists in the state.

Inspector Sushil Dubey here said the Chhattisgarh Police reached the police station "and sought our help to arrest the journalist". I also have the CD, but it was not released since we are examining the forensic credibility of the CD.
