Chevrolet Introduces 2019 Corvette ZR1: Most Powerful Yet

14 November 2017

755 horsepower is plenty to get a 3,524 pound coupe going very, very quickly in a straight line, and the 2019 Corvette ZR1 doesn't disappoint. How does 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque strike you?

Chevrolet introduced the highest-performing Corvette in history over the weekend with the unveiling of the 2019 ZR1. This marks the first time an automatic has been offered on the coveted ZR1. Furthermore, you can open it in the middle to clear the hardware. However, the peak horsepower is at 6,300 rpm, being 100 rpm lower compared to the 650-hp Corvette Z06. More so, the ZR1 is catering to both purists and track day enthusiasts, allowing the options of a seven-speed manual (with active rev match) and an eight-speed automatic.

All variants of the new ZR1 feature a Chevrolet-first, downforce-enhancing front underwing.

This is the first ZR1 since the previous version was retired in 2013 for the last generation of 'Vettes.

One person in custody after stabbing at Mall of America, authorities say
Police say one victim was stabbed after confronting a man attempting to steal his belongings from the dressing room. But he caught Abdirahaman in the act, and the would-be thief pulled a knife and stabbed him, authorities said .

Versus the single-bumper opening on lesser Corvettes (even the Z06), the ZR1 gets three massive openings plus what appears to be a fourth one tucked above the road-hugging splitter. Y'know, stuff like air conditioning and power windows. Gone are the round tail lights and returned the not-so-worthy Stingray name has. The sticker price was nearly $60,000, a fortune then.and now.

But the ZR1 isn't just about grunt, the Chevrolet engineers have tuned every element of the auto for maximum performance. Its 2.65-liter Eaton supercharger, for one thing, is 52% bigger than the blower box on the Z06. The final edition of this version of the ZR1 rolled off the assembly line in 2013. The front fascia's design is more than cosmetic; it's created to channel air to four new radiators, bringing the total number of heat exchangers to 13 on the auto.

The engine is built into the hood, with a gap in the center of the hood to reveal the engine's carbon-fiber top. Both of the new ZR1's wing setups are attached directly to the chassis, similar to the construction on the Corvette Racing C7.R. The high wing generates 60-percent more downforce than the optional Z07 Performance Package on the Corvette Z06.

Braking is taken care of by some eye-popping 394mm front and 388mm rear carbon ceramic matrix discs, clamped by six-piston aluminium front and four-piston rear calipers. Michelin Pilot Super Sport run-flats are also standard, sized P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in back.

Aguero gives Argentina win over Russian Federation at WCup final stadium
Argentina struggled to break down Russia's defense but coach Jorge Sampaoli saw encouraging signs. "We played in a bold, direct manner".

Those willing to reach deeper into their pockets can order the new Sebring Orange Design Package adding an array of orange accents combined with the main Sebring Orange Tintcoat paint. Buyers can also added a carbon fiber trimmed steering wheel, the competition sport seats, the Performance Data Recorder (that I am surprised is not standard) and a Bose premium sound system.

According to Chevy, the ZR1 will be available with two aerodynamic setups to ensure that all that velocity stays stuck to terra firma.

While no pricing information is available, Chevrolet says the ZR1 supercar will go on sale in the spring of 2018.
