Kerala 'love' case: 'Never forced to convert', says Hadiya

The case had gained limelight after the Kerala High Court had annulled Hadiya's marriage to Shafin Jahan on account that she was forcefully converted to Islam. Asokan has pleaded that his family's suffering should not be reduced to a public spectacle or a reality show.

The court will also deal with the plea filed by Hadiya's father for an in-camera hearing.

Earlier, Sheffin Jahan, husband of Hadiya filed a complaint stating that attempts are being made to reconvert her to Hinduism ahead of her being produced in Supreme Court on Monday.

Though the apex court initially ordered the National Investigation Agency to investigate allegations of Kerala becoming a hot bed for radicalisation and marriage of young girls, the court later made a decision to summon Hadiya to hear her version.

On Sunday, A Raghunathan, her father's lawyer told NDTV: "Any statement coming from such a mind (Hadiya's) can not be accepted".

The order was challenged by her husband in the Supreme Court.

Regarding the case, Hadiya's father moved a fresh application in the top court on November 21 seeking direction for audio and video recording of the hearing. While Hadiya said she married him willingly - and that the wedding was arranged by her Muslim guardian Sainaba - her father has portrayed the wedding as sinister, claiming Shafin has links to the radical group PFI.

The woman and her parents are likely to stay at Kerala House in New Delhi, sources said. "We will have the lady before us and ask her if she has consented voluntarily" to conversion and marriage, the bench had said.
