Macron Urged to Be Fair, Have Foresight

Iran swiftly dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron's call for talks relating to Tehran's ballistic missiles program.

"France is fully aware of our country's firm position that Iran's defense affairs are not negotiable", he said in a statement posted on the ministry's website on Sunday.

France has been trying to save the nuclear deal which Iran signed with six world powers - Britain, China, Germany, France, Russia and the United States.

US President Donald Trump has railed against the multiparty pact, negotiated by his predecessor Barack Obama, for being too lenient on Iran and failing to deny it leeway to develop its missile program and expand its regional influence, issues that all the parties to the deal agreed to exclude from the nuclear negotiations and the pact.

As expected earlier, the all-powerful council agreed to slash GST rates on restaurant bills from 18 per cent to 5 per cent. RETURN FILING: The GST council today chose to simplify the return filing procedure in a massive way.

But the French leader stressed it was also necessary to have a dialogue with Iran on other strategic issues, including Tehran's ballistic missile program and regional security, a proposal ruled out by Iran. He added, though, that France was committed to the landmark nuclear deal with Iran, which puts restrictions on Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

Tehran expects Paris to remain "realistic, fair and farsighted" when it comes to the sensitive developments in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf regions, Qassemi underlined.

The incident is a "part of this ballistic activity of Iran in the region, which is not covered by the [nuclear] deal", Macron told the Times.

Tehran says it has no plans to build nuclear-capable missiles and the missile programme is for defence purposes.

Saudi Arabia previously accused both Lebanon and Iran of committing an act of wars against it after rebels fired a missile at the King Khalid International Airport in the kingdom's capital of Riyadh.

The deal between Tehran and six world powers including France, Russia, the US, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom involves the removal of sanctions in exchange for Iran curbing its nuclear program.

His decision threw the fate of the agreement into the hands of the US Congress that has until mid-December to decide whether to reinstate sanctions.
