9 held for Pakistan University terror attack

A little after 8:00 AM on Friday, terrorists stormed a student hostel at the Directorate of Agriculture Extension on University Road in Peshawar.

Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), one of the country's most prominent terrorist groups, claimed responsibility for the attack.

In what was the deadliest attack on an educational institute in Peshawar since the APS massacre of 2014, terrorists took the lives of eight innocent students along with another person on Friday.

"Our mujahids have attacked the building because it was used as office for ISI".

According to the media report, the attackers disguised in burqas (an enveloping outer garment worn by Muslim women in Islamic tradition) arrived in an auto rickshaw at the Peshawar Agriculture Training Institute, where the attack was carried out by the gunmen, Peshawar police chief Tahir Khan said.

Shedding light on the operation, ISPR chief Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor commended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for their timely response and competency.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal reached Peshawar and visited the injured at Hayatabad Medical Complex and Khyber Teaching Hospital.

"This attack is a reaction to the continued brutalities by the intelligence agencies on Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan and innocent people especially prisoners and clerics", the group said.
