Australian approves Same-sex Marriage

08 December 2017

Following a postal survey earlier this year that showed that 61.6% of voters approved of same-sex marriage, the Australian parliament has passed a bill legalising the unions, and Twitter is beside itself with joy.

The marriage equality bill won massive support in the House of Representatives where almost all members of the ruling Liberal-National Coalition joined by Labor and the Greens voting in favor of the bill.

Less then four MPs voted no on the Bill, which is set to become law in days after it goes to the Governor-General, reported ABC News.

"This is Australia: Fair, diverse, loving and filled with respect for everyone", said an ecstatic Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, as he introduced the bill for a final vote.

The findings after this research review were definitely different than expected. Just eat it in moderation because of the saturated fats and sodium levels.

Marriage equality campaigners have fought for years for Thursday's vote.

Additionally, the passing of the same-sex marriage law will be a strategic political win for Turnbull, who has been strongly opposed by his predecessor Tony Abbott, a staunch supporter of conventional marriage. When the Attorney-General ratifies the law, same-sex marriage will finally be legal.

After the bill passed the Senate last week, House proceedings kicked off with fireworks Monday when Liberal MP Tim Wilson surprised his colleagues by proposing to his longtime partner Ryan Bolger.

"Australia you have demonstrated you love us, we love you, let's hope the politicians can be part of the love train, and later on let's party", she said.

John Conyers will leave Congress in wake of harassment claims
He has already stepped aside from his position as ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Hours after Conyers, D-Mich., announced his immediate retirement from the House of Representatives, Rep.

"Do we want today to be a day of unity, or do we want today to be a day of division?" .

"We thank all Australians for their support for saying yes, we thank all those who have campaigned for many years, for over 10 years, for fairness and equality".

Last month, we found out that the citizens voted in favor of legalizing gay marriage, but that was only a poll to find out what the people wanted.

Australia is the 25th country in the world to have marriage equality for same-sex couples. "Equality isn't in our legal birthright of every Australian and this equality is long overdue", said Mr Shorten.

Greg Abbott issued his condolences to the slain cop's family and promised the shooter will receive "swift justice". It was not immediately known whether the suspect shot himself or was shot by an officer on the scene, Stapp said.

In moving scenes, the entire parliament burst into song after the bill passed, belting out the lyrics to the "I Am Australian" song: "We are one, but we are many; And from all the lands on earth we come; We'll share a dream and sing with one voice; "I am, you are, we are Australian".
