"If someone really wants to use force to - as the U.S. representative to the United Nations put it - destroy North Korea... then I think it's playing with fire and a huge mistake", Lavrov said during a visit to Rome on Friday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said USA comments about North Korea amounted to a "really bloodthirsty tirade". Russian delegates who recently visited Pyongyang say North Korea is ready to hold direct talks with Washington, but only on the condition that it recognize the regime as a nuclear power.
The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, reacted to the test by urging more sanctions against Pyongyang and threatening that "if war comes... the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed", RT reported.

"While condemning Pyongyang's nuclear missile adventurism, we can not but condemn the provocative behavior of our American colleagues", Lavrov said in an interview with Belarusian broadcaster STV.
"China would defend North Korea because it's an ally and because it's in China's strategic interests to have an allied Communist state as a buffer state rather than a Korean peninsula unified under a South Korean flag", she said.
Lavrov also spoke of having "the impression over the last two months that there is someone in Washington who wants to provoke new actions" by North Korea.

Lavrov also reminded of the roadmap, jointly developed by Russian Federation and China, which implied rejection of any actions that fuel tensions and transition to negotiations.
Yesterday, Washington warned that North Korea's leadership will be "utterly destroyed" if war breaks out as it called on countries to cut all diplomatic and trade ties with North Korea.
A group of Russian MPs visited Pyongyang earlier this week in order to facilitate the resolution of the crisis.
