A new Wi-Fi standard expected to come in 2019.
Celeno Communications, the provider of smart, managed Wi-Fi solutions, has announced its Everest 802.11ax silicon solution created to address the demand for a high performance yet cost optimized solution as well as ensuring rapid migration of existing 802.11ac designs to 802.11ax, the company said.
The current 802.11ac standard introduced some features to divvy up network capacity between different devices, but the 802.11ax will take that ability a step further and while also accommodating devices that don't need to max out data-transfer speeds, Robinson said.

Intel may have been one of the first to produce 802.11ax chips. Only Draft 2.0 devices will be eligible for 802.11ax certification and get the Wi-Fi Certified badge.
Qualcomm announced the availability of 802.11ax chips in February last year, and even though Intel is coming on board with their 802.11ax chips this year, it may still be a while before certified products hit the markets. This new generation is supposed to faster, of course, but mostly it's meant to perform better in environments with lots and lots of connected devices; so things like public hotspots, but also your house if you just have a ton of phones and tablets and smart gadgets lying around.

Furthermore, Intel's 802.11ax chipsets are based on Draft 2.0 of 802.11ax, which will be the baseline for 802.11ax certification. Intel chipsets will be available for mainstream 2x2 and 4x4 home routers and gateways for cable, xDSL, fibre and consumer retail devices.
