Carlos Cordeiro elected US Soccer president

11 February 2018

The United States Soccer Federation elected Carlos Cordeiro as its newest president Saturday, per, and fellow candidate Hope Solo was not happy about it.

The consummate insider. Cordeiro's bid for the U.S. Soccer presidency in early November was not a surprise - he had always been president Sunil Gulati's heir apparent - but what was a surprise was that he entered without Gulati's blessing. But almost all of the backlash during this election towards U.S. Soccer, aside from the women's national team deserving equal pay, is because of one thing: the men's national team failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Cordeiro, however, said he was the only candidate with the experience and plan to "hit the ground running on day and deliver the change we need". The field initially featured eight candidates.

Who Is Kim Yo-jong, Sister of North Korean Leader?
The US has given mixed signals about its willingness to talk . "This is our family and this is great". She later gave that folder to Moon, and Moon's office said it was a personal letter from her brother.

"Elections are messy", said Gulati during a 45-minute address before the electronic votes were cast on cellphone-sized voting pads that caused a fair amount of head-scratching in amongst the electorate. "Today, the status quo is unacceptable", he said. He did not appear at the or U.S. Club Soccer candidates forums - he had conflicts with Federation Internationale de Football Association and Concacaf meetings - nor did he do a one-on-one session at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Philadelphia. This vote comes down to one simple question: "Who can actually deliver that change?" While candidates like Martino had big, ambitious and intriguing visions, Cordeiro is more of the "status quo", which for quite a while in U.S. Soccer has been good enough to get to a World Cup and potentially move on. Gulati will retain a role as a member of the USSF board and the Federation Internationale de Football Association executive council, and as chairman of the North American bid to host the 2026 World Cup.

Cordeiro won easily on the third ballot with 69 percent of the vote, conducted in a conference room at the Renaissance Orlando SeaWorld.

But as the results of the second ballot were announced, it was clear that the two polarizing candidates - Carter and Wynalda - had, as many suspected would happen, had hit their ceilings.

Trump asks Pentagon to hold a military parade in DC
He now commands Hollywood Post 43 of the American Legion, and he, too, thinks a military parade may not be such a bad idea. Even the hosts of Trump's beloved "Fox and Friends" expressed reservations about the spectacle that could cost millions.

Caligiuri withdrew from the process after the round after polling just 0.5 per cent. Martino drew 10.6 percent on the final ballot, while Wynalda and Solo received 8.9 and 1.4, respectively. While he was the consummate insider, he was independent - something he stressed time and again during the campaign - which did not place him in one of the four councils in opposition to the other three.

"To those who didn't support me, I'm going to work to earn your support and your trust over the next four years", he said. It was the youth, the adult, the athletes and the professionals. "I think we have an opportunity to really transform it into a number one sport".
