Eight countries push United Nations to take up Myanmar Rohingya crisis

"Buddhist villagers interviewed for this article reported no attack by a large number of insurgents on security forces in Inn Din", Reuters said, adding that other interviews had revealed the massacre victims included fishermen, shopkeepers, an imam and two teenaged high school students.

"When Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were first arrested, our primary focus was on their safety".

Despite the men being detained for eight weeks, first in police custody and then in Yangon's notorious Insein prison, as well as being denied bail at their last hearing, the results of their controversial work had now been published by Reuters.

The Annan-led commission submitted a report to Myanmar authorities in August, urging action to prevent violence, maintain peace and foster reconciliation in Myanmar's Rakhine state, from where the Rohingya have fled. In a single month, more than 6,700 Rohingya Muslims were killed in Rakhine state, where the conflict erupted, according to Doctors Without Borders. The conditions in those camps are dire, as NPR's Jason Beaubien has been reporting.

So when he picked up and donned the Florida hat, it was a bit of a surprise - especially to his mom. Copeland indicated in a tweet on Tuesday that his college decision was weighing heavily on him.

Reuter's report is in line with AP's report and describes in graphic, disturbing detail the account of atrocities in the Myanmar massacre.

The account marked the first time that soldiers and paramilitary police have been implicated by testimony from security personnel in arson and killings in Rakhine state that the United Nations has said may amount to genocide.

The special report published on Thursday lays out events leading up to the killing of 10 Rohingya men from the coastal Inn Din village in Rakhine state who were buried in a mass grave on Sept 2 after being hacked to death or shot by Buddhist neighbours and Myanmar troops.

The global community has condemned the actions of the Myanmar government and military in Rakhine State, which both the United States and the United Nations have described as "ethnic cleansing".

Nine of the 11 major S&P sectors were lower, with the industrials index's 0.57 per cent fall in early trade leading the decliners. The third idea to understand is that any dramatic drop or rise in the stock market affects relatively few people in the U.S.

The story also includes photographs of the mass grave site that were taken by Wa Lone.

The military has said that the 10 men belonged to a group of 200 "terrorists" that attacked security forces.

The investigation is a grim detail in a campaign of violence that has seen 688,000 of the Muslim Rohingya population fleeing to camps in Bangladesh.

"That's why the military has acknowledged the existence of this mass grave - because they knew the photos were out there", reporter Michael Sullivan told NPR in December.
