28 March 2018

The event begins at 3 PM CEST, which is around 6:30 PM in India. The world's third-largest smartphone maker will be live streaming the event through its official YouTube channel.

"This is a big jump with new technologies", Yu said, explaining why the P Series nomenclature went to P20 from P10 instead of P11. Instead, the notch contains the earpiece, the proximity, and ambient light sensors as well as the front camera. Evidently, the P20 Pro will feature a Leica-branded triple camera setup on the back, featuring a 40MP RGB camera, a 20MP monochrome lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens. The notch on the P20 looks more compact than the notch on the display of the Apple iPhone X. The Huawei P20 is powered by an in-house developed Kirin 970 SoC, which is the same SoC that is seen in the Honor View 10.

Huawei has launched its P20 smartphone series in an event at Paris, France. There's also a USB-C port, IP67 water and dust resistance, NFC, and an IR blaster.

The Huawei P20 also has a NPU (neural processing unit), which means AI can handle certain tasks, such as organizing photos.

The P20 Pro sports a 6.1-inch screen While the P20 has a 5.8-inch screen.

The P20 has a front-mounted fingerprint reader, just like the P20 Pro, and it has the same small notch at the top of the display. You can check out our first look video above.

While the quality of the zoom seems to be represented better in the P20 Pro, the iPhone X definitely handles a tricky lighting situation better.

With f/1.8, f/1.6 and f/2.4 wide aperture to capture details with flawless clarity, the Huawei P20 Pro also includes a brand new Leica lens with 3x optical zoom.

Inside there's an octa-core Kirin 970 and 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.

Like previous Huawei phones, there's a lot to Leica about the cameras.

The Huawei P20 Pro packs 4000mAh battery, and it can charge at a rate of 22.5W, thanks to the SuperCharge fast charging technology. They run on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with the custom EMUI 8.1 skin on top. The system can intelligently combine the data from both the RGB and the Monochrome sensors to produce brighter photos, with more detail, and richer colours, according to Huawei.

Following Sony and Samsung, the P20 Pro can now shoot super slow-motion footage at 960 frames per second although, unlike the new Xperia XZ2, it can only do so at 720p resolution. The new phone will be available from 28 March for Euro 649, followed by a P20 Pro from 16 April for Euro 899. It comes in some attractive colours, including the eye-catching, two-tone blue-green gradient version, pink gold, midnight blue, champagne gold and black - all edged with a coloured chrome metal frame.

The USP of the smartphone, however, is the triple rear camera setup. The AI software can detect over 500 different situations to optimise the camera settings, including long-exposure photos in the lowest light and a predictive sensor for correcting for movement.
