Ivanka Trump business dealings reportedly under Federal Bureau of Investigation scrutiny

03 March 2018

While it would not be out of the ordinary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to probe into foreign contacts and global business deals of the couple as both of them are senior advisors to President Donald Trump, the increased scrutiny into Ivanka's business entanglements started after her husband's security clearance in the White House was downgraded from "Top Secret" to "Secret" earlier this week.

The 616-foot Vancouver complex opened in February 2017, just after President Trump took office. A scion of one of Malaysia's wealthiest families, Tiah runs his family's Canada-based development company Holborn Group.

Like much of the family's properties, the building is not actually owned by the Trump Organization, but a Malaysian developer who has licensed the Trump brand.

"The timing of the deal - as one of the few Trump-branded properties to open since Trump took office - could be of interest".

It is not clear why this deal has attracted attention from intelligence officials. "The flow of foreign money, either from the developer or worldwide condo buyers, could also be sparking scrutiny". The deal is said to be worth at least $5 million in royalties and fees to the Trump organization.

"CNN is wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application", Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Ivanka Trump's ethics counsel, says in the CNN article. "Nothing in the new White House policy has changed Ms. Trump's ability to do the same work she has been doing since she joined the Administration".

This week, The New York Times and Washington Post carried stories that husband Jared Kushner is under investigation, after it was revealed that the Kushner real estate empire received more than $500 million in badly needed loans after senior corporate executives of the lenders met with Kushner at the White House.

Joo Kim Tiah, who is CEO of Kuala Lumpur-based TA Global and its Vancouver subsidiary Holborn Group, which constructed and owns the hotel and condo tower on West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver, did not immediately return calls to his cellphone. Earlier this week, The Washington Post reported that at least four foreign governments have discussed how they can use the Kushner Cos.'s financial woes and entanglements as leverage over the president's son-in-law, The New York Times reported that Kushner Cos. received roughly $500 million in financing from two US firms after Jared met with executives from the companies at the White House.

At the time, American reporters were looking into Trump's dealings with Russian Federation and ownership of individual units at Trump properties around the world.
