Nick Pope, James Tarkowski in England squad

16 March 2018

It has been a dramatic and incredible season for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The omission of Cahill, who recently lost his place in the Chelsea side, means there are no Blues players in Gareth Southgate's squad for the games against the Netherlands and Italy.

"I think of the 14 games I've had, he's only be available for six and, within those six, he's scored seven goals so that's an indicaton of his importance and standing for us".

"I think the medical reports we have are that for sure he'll play well before the end of the season", Southgate said.

One is players whose performances we were really pleased with in November, when there were lots of new players who came in and did well.

Toys R Us to close or sell over 800 remaining USA stores
The retailer is also hoping to find a buyer for its website, as well as some of its more successful USA locations. Toys R Us said in its liquidation filing that those price cuts were a big reason behind its weak holiday sales.

Burnley goalkeeper Pope has enjoyed a previous spell with York City while Swansea City signed central defender Mawson from Barnsley and Bournemouth midfield player Cook joined the Cherries from Leeds United in July, 2016.

Gareth Southgate has once again caused debate with the announcement of his England squad ahead of the friendlies with the Netherlands and Italy, naming four debutants in Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Alfie Mawson and Lewis Cook but the out of form goalkeeper Joe Hart retained his place in the squad.

England will take a squad of 23 players to Russian Federation in the summer, as well as a large group of coaches, support staff and a contingent of travelling fans.

"The reality is in the bigger matches Ashley Young gets the nod and I saw him against Liverpool, against [Mohamed] Salah, the other day [and] he was fantastic".

"Clearly the number one jersey is up for grabs".

With the World Cup three months away, England is having to make its preparations without injured star striker Harry Kane.

"Joe has had a hard period with his club and he had to miss out on selection a few times when David Moyes came in".

Another surprising inclusion was Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck who has not been a regular starter for Arsene Wenger's side in their hard campaign.
