Porsche takes more rugged ground with the Mission E Cross Turismo

07 March 2018

Before Porsche debuts its first-ever production electric auto in 2019, the Stuttgart automaker today revealed the concept of a new crossover variant of the upcoming Tesla-fighter.

Porsche likes to spring a surprise at the Geneva motor show, and for 2018 it's come up with this, the Mission E Cross Turismo.

But it looks completely different than any other Porsche in the line-up. And yes, if the Mission E is the Porsche answer to the Tesla Model S, the concept that's hinted to reach production quite soon is their response to the Tesla Model X all-electric SUV.

ACC Men's Basketball Tournament bracket released
Mike Krzyzewski's team is No. 4 in Sunday morning's updated CBS Sports Top 25 (and one) college basketball rankings. Tony Bennett of Virginia was named the league's Coach of the Year and Maye was named Most Improved Player .

It's not really a Sport Turismo like the Panamera, although it's arguably an estate. The rear is finished off with a spoiler and traditional full width light strip across the back with "Porsche" lettering and special LED constructed "e" that glows when the auto is plugged in to charge.

The interior is completely redesigned with a wing-shaped upper and lower dash. Several highlights are done in blue (which is European for green), including the wheels, an LED strip in the rear valence, and some subtle detailing on the otherwise not-at-all-subtle side skirts.

The Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo comes with rugged offroad tires, and elevated body with greater ground clearance. The electric crossover has a top speed of 250km/h.

The vehicle also benefits from all-wheel drive and torque vectoring, which Porsche says allows it to guarantee power on any surface. Porsche claim the vehicle can go 250 miles between charges, but crucially the cells can be replenished in just 15 minutes using a fast charger. Using 800 volts, as opposed to the industry standard 400 volt, the Mission E and Mission E Cross Turismo will be able to charge twice as fast.
