Vivo introduces APEX smartphone with In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology

01 March 2018

The Vivo Apex display is all screen, meaning a meagre 1.8mm bezel at the top and 4.3mm at the bottom. The camera takes just 0.8 seconds to rise out of the Apex's body and goes back inside when not in use. The company has managed to integrate the DAC and the three amplifiers together inside the body of the phone. And then fast forward to January this year, Vivo unveiled the X20 Plus UD which is the world's first mass-produced smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanning. This marks towards the half-screen fingerprint sensor which means the bottom half of the device will be a fingerprint scanner. Vivo seeks to address with new Screen Sound Casting Technology available on APEX which allows the display to function like a speaker and an earpiece. This technology transforms the bottom half of the screen into fingerprint scanning area. It argues that it should save on power, reduce sound leakage and offer a superior audio experience. This would address one of the many concerns users have with in-display fingerprint scanners being limited to only one small portion of the screen.

The first thing you'll notice when you look at the phone is that it is nearly entirely screen. A Vivo rep said the company could slim that bezel down even further to create a true full-view display. Vivo ditched a conventional earpiece for the Apex, building a speaker into the display instead.

Australia's deputy PM resigns over sexual harassment claims
Mr Joyce responded by calling Mr Turnbull " inept ", but his grip on his own party started to unravel. Whoever Nationals politicians choose as their new leader on Monday will become deputy prime minister.

For instance, you won't see a notch or top bezel with the typical sensors and selfie cameras, instead, you'll have to look on top of the device for these components.

Vivo has taken in-screen fingerprint scanning and bezel-less smartphone design to a whole new level. No doubt we'll be seeing them in not only this phone but other manufacturers' offerings in the not-to-distant future.

Tiger Woods four shots back on crowded Honda Classic leaderboard
Chamblee's colleague, Kelly Tilghman chimed in, noting that the blast on No. 10 was Woods' longest drive on tour since 2014. It seems like it's been quite blustery the last couple of years at Augusta, anyway. "I feel like I'm right there".

The feature has been developed in order to minimise bezel space on phones and maximise screens space. "From breakthroughs in audio, photography to In-Display Fingerprint Scanning Technology, Vivo has remained committed to realizing our vision for future smartphones".

The phone is called the Apex FullView. That prototype later shipped in China as the X20 Plus UD, and now Vivo has brought a concept phone to MWC that represents the next evolution of that idea. The futuristic design innovations in APEXTM are only a fraction of our innovation pipeline. The spokesperson showing me the phone mentioned a married couple both authenticating a document on the phone as a potential use case, but since Vivo hasn't had many conversations about the technology with possible partners, I wouldn't count on seeing that anytime soon.

History shows the Reds are leading the head-to-head record comfortably, with 73 wins to Chelsea's 52 from 178 meetings. Are there major changes to the two team that face off? "It is always more hard to come from the bench than to start".
