Scuffles and brief clashes took place with police during the second half of Monday when protestors made a decision to march on the parliament. The protests a decade ago drew tens of thousands of supporters of Sargsyan's defeated rival Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, ending in bloody clashes that claimed the lives of 10 people, after which a 20-day state of emergency was imposed. Several dozen people were injured in the clashes.

The third Armenian president and the candidate for the new Prime Minister, Serzh Sargsyan, stated that he is ready to take the new role in the country during his interview with Russian Izvestia.

The protesters took to the streets after opposition leader Pashinian called on Armenians to stage rallies to prevent Sarkisian's political transition.

On Monday, the country's police released a warning publicly, demanding opposition leader Pashinyan stop the rallies and disruption of "public order" in the capital, otherwise the "use of force" would be applied to disperse the crowds. They are an expression of people's frustration with the regime. He resigned as president a week earlier and, under a new constitution that makes the prime minister the country's most powerful figure, is set to extend his unpopular rule indefinitely. The parliament where Sargsyan's party has majority will be electing the Prime Minister on April 17.
