Florida governor enters race for US Senate

12 April 2018

Washington is exhausted. And the truth is, both political parties share some of the blame. The race could be one of the most expensive and highly watched in all the midterm elections. It also offers a test of whether a tight alliance with Trump provides more help or harm in the current political environment. The race between the two-term governor and three-term senator promises to be a test of the popularity of President Donald Trump.

We want to hear what you think of Rick Scott's time as Florida governor.

Scott ran as a Tea Party candidate in 2010, emphasizing his success as a businessman and promising job creation. Republicans need a win here they absolutely need a win.

"Some say as governor, I have never fit in or played by the political rules in Tallahassee", Scott said in a video released by his campaign. The same would be true in Washington, Scott said.

"You know we shouldn't be sending the same type of people to Washington", he said.

Guns and potential gun control legislation will be a focal point of the race between Scott and Nelson. Politico rightly described this race as one that could prove if an alliance with Trump "is political poison or a pathway to success in the nation's biggest swing state".

Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle beat Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to give the former a winning start in the WWE . One of these bizarre-bad moments was Brock Lesnar's shocking retention of the Universal Title.

After Scott's announcement, the non-partisan Cook Political report moved the race to "toss up", further putting the Democrats on the defensive.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested Scott should run for Senate.

"Rick Scott supports Puerto Rico because he cares", Hernandez said.

"I don't care who is an opponent", Nelson said in Washington. "I've been very clear", he said.

Scott also recounted Florida's recovery from the recession under his leadership, pointing to job creation, tax cuts, a reduction in state debt and a record numbers in tourism.

Some environmental groups are speaking out against Gov. Rick Scott's U.S. Senate bid.

6 killed in small airplane crash on Scottsdale golf course
TPC Scottsdale is a 36-hole course located 20 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix, and hosts the PGA's Phoenix Open each February. It did not identify the dead. "He was on his way to come party with us in vegas from Scottsdale and his plane crashed".

Sen. Bill Nelson readily noted the silence.

That line is nearly an understatement for Scott: The "jobs" message is the raison d'être for his political identity, born in 2010 when faith in the state and national economy were low and unemployment numbers were high.

Democrats have been anticipating his move for months and have ramped up their criticism, noting that Scott had been forced out as chief executive of Columbia/HCA amid a federal fraud investigation.

Nelson later told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Monday afternoon that "there are so many differences" between himself and Scott.

Guns could emerge as a central issue in the campaign.

The governor has also made national headlines for leading Florida during Hurricane Irma late a year ago and the recent deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., which has elevated the debate over gun policy.
