Putin Warns of Global 'Chaos' if Syria Is Hit Again

17 April 2018

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Sunday western powers that further attacks in Syria will bring "chaos" in global relations.

Before and after satellite pictures have revealed the damage of Saturday's US, French and British strikes that were meant to punish Syria for an alleged chemical weapons attack.

Speaking to the BBC, Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said that Western powers had no plans for further missile strikes, though they would assess their options if Damascus used chemical weapons again.

In a statement on its website, Stop the War Coalition said it "strongly condemned" the missile blitz adding it will have "only brought the Syrians "more misery and destruction".

Saturday's airstrikes have further aggravated relations between Britain and Russia, which were already at their lowest in decades following a nerve agent attack on a former Russian double agent and his daughter in England last month. The Pentagon says no missiles were engaged.

The missiles targeted Shayrat air base, it said - but did not say who fired the missiles.

He denied that Russian Federation was hampering the mission and suggested the approval was held up because of the Western air strikes. He described Russian allegations of British involvement in the alleged chemical attack in Syria and the poisoning in Salisbury as "preposterous" and "demented".

She said there was "clear evidence" Syria was behind the chemical attack.

Despite their unified stance to rout out chemical weapons from Syria, there has been no consistent strategy voiced by the administrations in London, Paris and Washington over the way forward in Syria.
