'Attitude,' not preparation, key for North Korea summit

08 June 2018

A Kim Jong-un lookalike said on Friday he was questioned on arrival in Singapore ahead of a historic US-North Korea summit and told to stay away from sites linked to the event.

"I think that could happen", Trump said during a Rose Garden press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "I think it was a bit in jest". It's about the attitude. It's about willingness to get things done.

After scrapping the summit on May 24, Trump reinstated it last week after a letter from Kim was hand-delivered to the President at the White House by the North Korean leader's top envoy.

On Wednesday, Mr Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said North Korea's leader had "begged" for their summit to go ahead.

Mr Giuliani, who is acting as lawyer for the U.S. president in the Russian Federation collusion inquiry, said the United States was going into the summit in a position much stronger than North Korea.

"He would look at it very favourably so that could happen", the United States president said at a joint press conference with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. Now that you know the venue for the meet, we've also got you inside photos of the luxury hotel in Singapore.

"I will provide an update and underscore the importance of implementing all sanctions imposed on North Korea", Pompeo told reporters at the White House. I'd love to say it could happen in one deal, maybe it can. "I have not seen any secret plan or been told about one", he said.

Trump's antagonistic trade policies - and specifically the steel and aluminum tariffs - drew worldwide denunciation. He affirmed that President Trump would attend the G7 next week in Canada .

"I think it's going to be a very fruitful meeting". "It would be wonderful if it were".

Abe requested Thursday's meeting with Trump to elevate his country's concerns about the summit.

The denuclearization of the Korean peninsula would usher in a new era of prosperity, security and peace for all Koreans, North and South and for people everywhere, he said.

The two options: Seek a freeze on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs through direct engagement, or increase pressure on North Korea through China.

Mr Abe requested the meeting with Mr Trump to ensure Japan's interests are represented in the Trump-Kim meeting.

The two men are set to discuss North Korea dumping its nuclear weapons, with Trump promising to help revive the impoverished nation's economy if he does so.

The leader of South Korea's main Liberty Korea opposition party on Thursday urged Trump not to agree to "any deal" purely to guarantee the security of the US.

Fekir's agent has confirmed Liverpool are interested in signing the Lyon midfielder but also warned a deal was far from done earlier this week.

Aides expect Trump to try to use a personal touch to try build trust with Kim. We're leaving all of the existing sanctions on.

Trump added that sanctions on North Korea remain in place.

In Korea, senior diplomats of the North and the USA have negotiated what will be on the table.

Trump also hinted that he and Kim Jong-Un could sign an agreement to end the Korean War at their meeting.

However, the senior White House official pointed to Trump's relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping as a sign of how he might deal with Kim: Trump frequently talks about how close he is to Xi, but this has not stopped him from talking tough on trade with Xi.

Trump has made clear he prefers a bilateral deal to reduce the US trade deficit with Japan, while Abe's government says multilateral agreements would be best.
