Slavisa Jokanovic will manage Fulham for their first Premier League season since 2013-14.

The 18-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances this season, with speculation rife about which top-flight side would secure his signature in the close season.

Fulham were favourites with the bookmakers - and perhaps the neutrals - on their first trip to Wembley since 1975, and emerged 1-0 winners against Steve Bruce's Aston Villa after clinging onto Cairney's first-half strike.

Fulham's Tom Cairney, centre, holds the trophy after the final soccer match of the English League Championship against Aston Villa, at Wembley Stadium, in London, Saturday May 26, 2018.

The west London side's triumph has changed everything. Until recently, both Fulham and Aston Villa were established Premier League clubs.

Fulham took the lead in the 23rd minute when Tom Cairney finished from Ryan Sessegnon's superb assist. Promotion to the Premier League is estimated to be worth an additional £160million, spread over three years, which obviously would make a significant difference to either team.

"The way he sets us up gives us the freedom to play and the lads that are out there are courageous on the ball".

"We've brought the club back where it should be", on-loan striker Aleksandar Mitrovic said. He had an option [for a further year's contract] if we'd gone up but we haven't got that now.

"We've shown we are one of the best Championship teams", he said.

No manager has won more promotions to the Premier League than the four amassed by Bruce, whose team included former Chelsea captain John Terry.

"Of course there's going to be speculation over Jack", Bruce told reporters after the final.
