President Trump Holds Rally in North Dakota

30 June 2018

He said most of his neighbors voted for Trump but are "not getting what they thought" from the president. Oversen attended the Rally for Agriculture Wednesday morning before the Trump rally, at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in West Fargo.

'When Heidi ran for office, she promised to be an independent vote for the people of North Dakota, ' he said.

Heitkamp told the AP she's curious how Trump will portray her record, which she says has favored many issues the president cares about, like environmental and banking regulations.

Trump went farther than that in attacking Heitkamp, calling her a "liberal Democrat" who blindly follows "Chuck and Nancy".

"You need a senator who doesn't just talk like they are from North Dakota but votes like they are from North Dakota, and that's Kevin Cramer", said the president.

Trump said his intra-borough rival, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joseph Crowley (D) is a "slovenly man" who was surprised by an upset defeat at the hands of a socialist candidate.

President Donald Trump met with a group of swing-state senators from both parties at the White House on Thursday to discuss a replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, the president's press secretary said.

Trump also implored the crowd to replace Heitkamp with Republican Kevin Cramer.

In response to the visit Heitkamp issued a statement: Anytime the president comes to North Dakota - that's a good thing for our state. "A vote for any Democrat is a vote for Schumer, Pelosi and Maxine - Maxine, she's a beauty".

Ahead of the midterm election, and with Senate control at stake, Republicans are eyeing Heitkamp's seat as a top pickup opportunity. "Heidi will vote no to any pick we make".

It is not the first time the president has suggested that he and his supporters are more elite than the elite - initially making such comments at a rally in Duluth, Minnesota last week, when Trump suggested that since he had a better apartment and more money than his detractors, they shouldn't be called elite.

Trump said he has to name someone young enough "that's going to be there for 45 years".

Trump told reporters Wednesday that he plans to nominate a justice from that list. Justice Kennedy, 81, will retire on 31 July, per his letter to Mr Trump.

When Trump and Heitkamp were still on friendly terms, the former reportedly asked her to change parties.

Ahead of Wednesday night's rally in North Dakota, Trump tweeted that Cramer "is an extraordinary Congressman who will hopefully soon represent this great state as your Senator".

"I hate it, I meet these people, they call it the elite", Trump told the crowd, The Hill reported.

"I was taught that two wrongs don't make a right", she said.

Trump said he was happy that Pelosi and California Rep. Maxine Waters would remain the faces of the Democratic Party.
