SES has announced that its SES-12 satellite was successfully launched onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida, US. The launch was completed just after midnight local time, the satellite was deployed about 32 minutes after takeoff.
However, the WSJ piece also notes that SpaceX is facing uncertain demand for Falcon Heavy, and that the company itself is projecting a significant drop in launches next year due to fewer contracts for large satellite launches-smaller satellites can be happily sent into orbit using SpaceX's smaller, more proven Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX did not attempt to recover Falcon 9's first stage after launch. The launch from Cape Canaveral, Fla., has a four-hour window that opens 12:29am ET (04:29 UTC).
Roseanne Barr says she 'begged' ABC to save her show
Comedian and late show host Jimmy Kimmel spoke out in Roseanne's defence, telling people to back off and have some compassion. It's not a one time joke, OK. "I can't let myself cave in tho", she added.
The new platform will join SES-8 at 95 degrees East and will replace and augment the services now being provided on SES' NSS-6 satellite.
"It's big", said Martin Halliwell, chief technology officer at SES, of the satellite.

At least 25 dead after Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupts
Eddy Sanchez, director of the country's seismology and volcanology institute, said the flows reached temperatures of about 700 C. Another victim was found in the streets of El Rodeo by volunteer firefighters, but the person died in an ambulance.
The satellite's lightweight ion propulsion system will slowly but efficiently boost the relay station into a circular orbit 22,300 miles above the equator.
"We believe there are one billion people in the Asia-Pacific market who still do not have good connectivity to the devices they hold in their hands", said John-Paul Hemingway, CEO of SES Networks. "The Airbus team has now started SES-12 Electric Orbit Raising (EOR) operations".
The all-electric, state-of-the-art satellite will provide television, phone and data services for customers on the other side of the globe.
