US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he has instructed US representatives not to endorse the joint communique released at the end of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Quebec, Canada, Xinhua reported.

The leaders of both France and Germany have already stated that they will not sign a joint statement at the conclusion of the summit unless President Trump makes some concessions on key issues, including language related to the nuclear accord with Iran.

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, lashed out at Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau as "amateurish" and "sophomoric" for a news conference he gave after Trump left the Group of Seven summit on Saturday.

"I would say that the level of relationships is a 10 - we have a great relationship".

The chancellor also addressed concerns that Trump would hit back by implementing tariffs on German vehicles, saying, "First of all, we'll try and see if we can prevent this".

As befits his role as annual chairman of the G-7, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's picture is taken from the side, impartially showing Mr Trump dealing with his counterparts as equals. He says that we are the problem with tariffs.

Like Canada, the European Union is preparing counter-measures against US tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, in line with World Trade Organisation rules, Merkel said.

The summit came during an ongoing trade dispute with China and served as a precursor to the unprecedented meeting with Kim, in which Trump has sought to extend a hand to the Asian autocrat who has long bedeviled the worldwide order. "I don't understand the obsession with trade relations with Canada", he said, given that Canada is the biggest single buyer of American goods and services in the world.

The chancellor also announced during Sunday's interview that, just like Canada, the European Union was also preparing counter-measures to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.

Trump called the summit a "one time shot" for Kim, but expressed optimism at the beginning of talks with the North Korean regime.
