Transfer: Chelsea leading race to land Zaha from Crystal Palace

08 August 2018

Wilfried Zaha is set to stay at Crystal Palace this summer, despite interest of the big teams in the Premier League.

Zaha's stint at Old Trafford in 2013 was labeled a failure, and it is believed that he turned down a move to Everton because he wants to remain in London. As per Mirror, Wilfried Zaha is keen on departing Palace this window, and could put in an official transfer request soon.

Zaha made his feelings clear to the Palace hierarchy though earlier in the summer by turning down a new contract with improved wages, clearly setting his sights at a move higher up in the Premier League table.

Zaha contributed nine goals and three assists from 29 top-flight appearances last season.

Trade tensions weigh on oil prices
China has however agreed it will not increase oil imports from Iran, in a move which would directly challenge the U.S. blockade. The controversial move was preceded by a deadly crush of Hajj pilgrims in September 2015, which killed more than 460 Iranians.

That prompted Palace to offer Zaha a new deal worth £125,000-a-week - although he only signed one for £100,000-a-week 15 months ago - but Zaha has rejected it in a bid to force a move.

The Ivory Coast global only penned a five-year contract with Palace last summer, but it has been suggested that the player is keen to secure a transfer to Chelsea.

Fresh off the back of a Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at Wembley and a pre-season penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal, Maurizio Sarri is conducting crunch transfer talks today to bring in fresh faces ahead of the deadline on Thursday.
