Four people, including two police officers, were killed in a shooting in eastern Canada on Friday in the latest eruption of gun violence across the country that has led to calls for weapons bans in cities.
Police in Fredericton, a city of about 56,000, said a suspect was in custody and being treated for serious injuries.
The Fredericton Police Department Twitter page says that two of the people killed in the shooting are police officers.
A worker at a business a few blocks from where the shootings are believed to have occurred didn't want to be identified, but she said police had already cordoned off the area by the time she got to work.

A large group of Fredericton police officers were gathered early Friday afternoon outside the Chalmers hospital, and appeared to be consoling each other. "We've lost a brother".

Muhamad Juanda, who narrowly escaped the mosque collapse, said 100 people were praying inside when the earth began to roll. The main tourist areas of Lombok in the south and west of the island appear to have been spared the worst of the damage.
New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant tweeted his condolences to the victims and their families. A prayer vigil was planned in Fredericton for Friday evening.
The quiet residential neighbourhood, dominated by houses, grocery stores, a church and an elementary school, is the last place Hrubeniuk said he expected to encounter a unsafe situation. "In this time of shock and grief, let us all protect their families", Fredericton's mayor, Mike O'Brien, said on Twitter.
Gaudet said the investigation has been turned over to the RCMP.
The circumstances of the shooting in the capital of New Brunswick province, home to about 60,000 people, were not immediately clear. Constables Eric Dubois and Darlene Goguen were also injured when Bourque went hunting police officers in a Moncton neighbourhood.
