4 dead in Cincinnati bank shooting

A 26-year-old Andhra man was among three people killed when a gunman opened fire in a bank building in the USA city of Cincinnati before police shot him dead on Thursday.

Cincinnati police chief Eliot Isaac said investigators don't know why Santa Perez chose to open fire in the building that headquarters Fifth Third Bancorp.

Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac said, "Shooter has been identified as 29-year old Omar Perez who resided in Northbend, OH".

The video also showed Santa Perez walking quickly past a security turnstile just as he was shot by police officers who fired through a plate glass window.

According to a spokeswoman for the University of Cincinnati Health system, one victim has been upgraded from critical to serious condition, and one remains in fair condition.

"This is abnormal. No other industrialized country has this level of active multiple shootings on a regular basis", Mayor John Cranley said in a news conference. The police chief said that the gunman acted alone.

Two other people were wounded.

Ebony Ginyard, who works at a Dunkin' Donuts in Fountain Square, said she and other workers and customers dropped to the floor when the shooting started.

The other two victims were identified as bank employee Luis Calderon, 48, and Richard Newcomer, 64, a contractor who worked for Gilbane Building Company.

"This is a shock that none of us could have ever expected and we're focused on praying for his family and getting through this", Cotter said.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene, with one person suffering life-threatening injuries airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital. On Saturday night, authorities had to temporarily halt the search because it was too unsafe to put divers into the dark waters.

Fifth Third, which operates 1,200 banking centers across several states, in a statement offered its "thoughts and prayers" for everyone "caught up in this awful event".

Bank manager Greg Harshfield told CNN affiliate WXIX that he could hear the shooting unfold from an upper floor of the building.
